RICHES FAMILY HISTORY - NORFOLK UK TO VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA
Members of our branch of the RICHES family arrived
in Portland Bay Victoria aboard the “Ann Milne” in
1853. We were bemused to discover that William and his wife Rebecca
(nee BOND) gave all their children the middle
name MONEY. We at first thought it was wishful
thinking on their part but were later to discover that William’s
aunt, Mary RICHES, married the Reverend William MONEY. The Rev MONEY was the
vicar of Wiggenhall St Mary the Virgin in Norfolk and it is from
this area that our part of the RICHES family history begins.
James RICHES (1764-1803), possibly married
Elizabeth POTTER, and is the father of-
Matilda Elizabeth RICHES (born 1792 in Bungay,
St Mary, Suffolk)
Harriet Money RICHES (born 1794 in Bungay, St
Mary, Suffolk)
Sophia RICHES (born 1797 in Bungay, St Mary,
Suffolk)
William Money RICHES (born 1799 in Norfolk –
1828)
The above William Money RICHES married Maria MOBBS in 1825 and in 1828 their son William Money RICHES 2nd was born (his father was to die a
couple of months after his birth). This William married Rebecca
(nee BOND) and they travelled to Australia with
their first child, William Money RICHES 3rd.

Arthur Money RICHES (1873-?) (married to Miriam
Ward BEST)
Members of Rebecca’s family also travelled to Australia
with the RICHES family and settled in the Portland/Warnambool
area. John BOND and his wife Caroline NEWSTEAD;
William BOND and his wife Sara Jane BRADFIELD and Sara BOND and her husband Robert KELTON (previously CARLTON) were their
fellow travellers.
